Faces and places that make up St. Mary’s University

About this blog:

This blog showcases the work of Renée Padilla for Media Production I during the Fall 2019 semester.

Renée Padilla is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English-Communication Arts from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. She is a student-assistant at the Registrar’s Office where her attention to detail, organizational and communication skills are tested daily. She is also a staff writer for The Rattler, the award-winning student-run newspaper.

Last summer, Padilla worked as media coordinator for Camp Tecaboca in Mountain Home, Texas. There, she put her story-telling skills to good use as she relayed the days’ events in photos. As media coordinator, Padilla was responsible for all photography and managed the parents’ private Facebook page, in addition performing other duties related to being a camp counselor.

Padilla also has worked with children for years as a volunteer Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School leader at Freedom Chapel, Lackland Air Force Base. She hopes to continue working with children to promote childhood literacy and nurture imagination.

Padilla’s academic achievements include being inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success and Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society. Padilla has made the Dean’s List every semester she has attended St. Mary’s and has received the Hearst, John G. Rechtien and Smith English Scholarships. She is also a recipient of the Madeline Scholarship from St. Mary’s.

After graduating from St. Mary’s, Padilla intends to pursue a master’s degree in library science and publish her own poetry and short fiction.
