Expectations & Preparations

Overall, I am mostly excited to have the opportunity to be creative and learn new skills in this course. I know this class is going to have a lot of out-of-class work, so I’m trying to get into a good rhythm as early as possible this semester.

I am most excited about working with Final Cut Pro again. I haven’t touched it in a long time, but I really loved editing videos when I was in a video production class in ninth grade. I am also excited about using the photography skills that I learned last semester from Professor Bendaña.

One major obstacle I foresee is running out of time. I have a tendency to overcomplicate everything, so even if I start a project early, I run myself into a corner. My strategy is to work on a strict schedule, and if I start working more hours than necessary, I’ll know I need to make changes. My other obstacle is being nervous while interviewing my “characters.” There isn’t really a strategy for this, but I know that I can push through those nerves because I’ve done so in the past.

In general, it’s important to understand media and have plenty of ways to express creativity. Like most careers, my potential job as a librarian will likely require presentations – and a video with music looks impressive. This course can also make me stronger at organizing a cohesive story, which will be beneficial in my dream-job as a professional writer.

Thank you, Brother Dennis, for coming back to St. Mary’s and being our instructor this semester. I hope that all of us learn something new and have a lot of fun together.
